Colorado authorities have reported that increases in teen drug abuse throughout the state are the result of increases in the number of Colorado teens who have been abusing marijuana.
With marijuana becoming more accessible (and in many areas more acceptable), experts continue to urge parents, teachers and other caregivers to inform young people harmful effects that marijuana can have on developing brains -- and how these developmental deficits can burden them as adults.
Colorado is one of 15 states that have legalized marijuana for medicinal uses.
The 2010 Monitoring the Future survey of drug trends and attitudes among U.S. teens revealed that almost 6.1 percent of high school seniors reported using marijuana on a daily basis -- an increase from the previous year.
